GYL Volunteers with Food Pantry For New York City

August 19, 2024

It was a gratifying day for two of our NYC team members, GYL Managing Director and Co-Founder @Aaron Cohen and Client Associate @Hernan Marambio, who volunteered to serve lunch to seniors at the Food Bank For New York City’s Community Kitchen and Pantry earlier this month!

Driven by a mission to empower every New Yorker to achieve food security for good, the Food Bank For New York City harness the collective power of its network of food providers, partners, and volunteers to activate the right resources, supports, and expertise across the five boroughs. They work with 800+ soup kitchens, food pantries, and campus partners to provide immediate and reliable access to food and nutrition education. Additionally, they run economic empowerment programs to give people the tools and know-how to improve their financial wellness. Community by community, the Food Bank For New York City hopes to achieve a more hopeful, dignified, and equitable future for all.

Their Community Kitchen’s meal service distributes nutritious hot meals to hundreds of guests each week. During Senior Lunch Service, the kitchen’s senior neighbors are invited to come to the Community Kitchen to sit down and enjoy a hot meal.

Volunteers lend a helping hand with meal preparation, welcoming guests, and serving lunch in an elevated dining experience. Additionally, they assist in the clean-up of the dining room, bussing tables, and preparing for the next round of customers.

Our team members had a wonderful experience participating at the Senior Lunch Service and were delighted to meet friendly and appreciative members of the community during their visit. The staff were extremely professional in guiding our employees throughout this experience. We cannot wait to come back!
